On July 5, 2024, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the UAE-China Economic and Trade Investment (Greater Bay Area) Exchange Conference was grandly held at the Qianhai Kerry Center in Shenzhen. The event was jointly organized by the UAE China Chamber of Commerce, the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, and the Greater Bay Area Entrepreneurs Union. It gathered over 330 industry elites and business representatives from various cutting-edge fields to explore the potential of China-UAE economic and trade cooperation and promote comprehensive cooperation between the Greater Bay Area and the UAE.
Notable attendees included Dr. Jonathan Choi, member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and President of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong; Tang Zhen Gang, President of the UAE China Chamber of Commerce; His Excellency Abdulaziz Alnuaimi, Assistant Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Economy; Her Excellency Mariam Alshamsi, Consul General of the UAE in Guangzhou; Wang Shourui, Member of the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee, Secretary of the Party Working Committee of the Qianhai Cooperation Zone, and Secretary of the Bao’an District Committee; Cui Shuang, Vice President of the Guangdong Provincial Committee for the Promotion of International Trade; Bernard Chan Pak-li, Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of Hong Kong; and Vincent U, Chairman of the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute. Dr. Jonathan Choi emphasized Hong Kong's strategic position as an international financial center and its role in China-UAE economic and trade cooperation, urging Hong Kong enterprises to actively participate in the Belt and Road Initiative.
Consul General Mariam Alshamsi reviewed the significant achievements in China-UAE cooperation in recent years, particularly highlighting the indispensable role of the Belt and Road Initiative in global economic integration. She extended a warm invitation to Chinese investors to share the opportunities in the UAE's vibrant development.
President Tang Zhen Gang shared the success stories of Chinese businesses in the UAE, encouraging more Chinese enterprises to seize the current favorable opportunities and expand their investments and business activities in the UAE. He also invited the guests to participate in the UAE World Chinese Business Week event scheduled for November this year, which aims to provide participants with valuable insights into the UAE business environment through on-site visits and exchanges.
Wang Huimin, Executive President and Secretary-General of the UAE China Chamber of Commerce, and Chairman of De Shijia Real Estate in Dubai, extensively promoted the broad business opportunities in the Middle East, capturing the attention and interest of many investors. Wang Shourui, Member of the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee, congratulated the successful event, expressing hope that the exchange would foster deeper cooperation between Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and the UAE across various fields. Cui Shuang, Vice President of the Guangdong Provincial Committee for the Promotion of International Trade, highlighted the latest achievements in Guangdong-UAE economic and trade cooperation, advocating for enterprises on both sides to seize this historic cooperation opportunity with an open and innovative mindset.
In the roundtable discussion session, guests including Wang Huimin, Qiuyi Zheng, Partner of PwC China M&A Advisory Services, Zheng Li, Head of Middle East Business at TF International Securities Group, and Jianping Zheng, Secretary-General of the Belt and Road Cooperation Alliance of the China Tourism Design Institute, discussed how enterprises could seize new opportunities in China-UAE cooperation. They shared successful cases and explored challenges and strategies to help Chinese enterprises better integrate into the UAE market for mutual benefit and win-win results.
The successful conclusion of this exchange conference not only significantly enhanced the mutual understanding and trust between China and the UAE in the economic and trade fields but also laid a solid foundation for deep cooperation between enterprises in the Greater Bay Area and the UAE on the global stage, marking a new phase in China-UAE economic and trade cooperation and opening a new chapter of win-win cooperation.
