Mazen bin Ibrahim Al-Kahmous, the President of Saudi Arabia's Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority, led the Saudi delegation to participate in the Global Anti-Corruption Enforcement Cooperation Network (GlobeE) Ministerial Meeting held in Beijing, the capital of the People's Republic of China. The meeting, held from September 23 to 27, 2024 (corresponding to 1446/3/20 to 1446/3/24 in the Islamic calendar), attracted high-ranking officials and representatives from enforcement agencies worldwide to discuss the future of anti-corruption enforcement cooperation.
In his speech at the meeting, Al-Kahmous expressed deep appreciation to China for successfully hosting this significant global anti-corruption event. He stressed the crucial role of international cooperation in combating increasingly complex cross-border corruption crimes, particularly in the context of the growing use of virtual currencies. Criminals are exploiting these currencies to hide corruption and launder illicit gains across various countries, posing significant challenges to enforcement agencies worldwide.
Al-Kahmous noted that the development of the GlobeE network is at a critical juncture, and the international community must strengthen information sharing and technological cooperation to effectively address the increasingly diversified and globalized nature of corruption. He affirmed Saudi Arabia's commitment to collaborating with other nations and international organizations to combat corruption and ensure transparency and fairness in the global economic order.
The meeting's key topics focused on the current state of international anti-corruption enforcement cooperation, the emergence of new corruption crime patterns, and the use of advanced technology to combat these activities. Representatives from various countries shared their experiences and technical insights, advancing global anti-corruption efforts.
Saudi Arabia's Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority has been actively advancing anti-corruption efforts both domestically and internationally, using legal measures and international cooperation to protect public interests and combat all forms of corruption. The participation of the Saudi delegation at this meeting underscores the Saudi government's firm support and involvement in global anti-corruption cooperation.
The meeting will continue until September 27, 2024, and is expected to result in a series of joint statements and action plans for anti-corruption enforcement cooperation.
