Strengthening Cooperation and Building the Future Together
In the summer of 2024, six graduate students from Zhejiang University's "Zhiyuan" Social Practice Team visited Gulf Medical University in the UAE, embarking on a four-week journey of exchange and collaboration. During this period, the team engaged in in-depth academic exchanges with the faculty and students of Gulf Medical University and conducted a series of cultural presentations and volunteer services aimed at promoting understanding and cooperation between China and Arab countries.
Cultural Exchange: Sharing Chinese Experience
To enhance the understanding of Chinese culture and development among UAE students, the team organized a cultural presentation for students at the Thumbay Precision Medicine Laboratory. The presentation focused on the history and current status of the "Maritime Silk Road" and the successful practices of the China-Arab Belt and Road Initiative.
The team members detailed how the Maritime Silk Road served as an important ancient trade and cultural exchange route between East and West, facilitating trade and cultural exchanges between China and the Arab world. They also highlighted the fruitful outcomes of China's cooperation with the UAE under the Belt and Road Initiative framework. This presentation not only deepened the UAE students' understanding of Chinese history and culture but also sparked their interest in future opportunities to visit and study in China.
Science Popularization: Focusing on Health and Safety
During the practice, the Zhejiang University Social Practice Team also conducted several science popularization activities, covering topics such as laboratory safety and health protection. The team shared knowledge on the safe use of toxic reagents in laboratories and provided detailed explanations on how to protect oneself during experiments and avoid exposure to harmful substances.
Additionally, the team educated UAE students on shoulder health, helping them identify and prevent common causes of shoulder pain. These activities not only enhanced the scientific knowledge of the UAE students but also further strengthened cooperation and exchanges between the two countries in the medical field.
Volunteer Service: Sowing the Seeds of Friendship
Beyond academic exchanges, the team members actively participated in volunteer services, helping patients find their way to the hospital's laboratory. Their selfless assistance was widely praised by the faculty, students, and patients in the UAE.
Conclusion: Writing a New Chapter of Friendship
During the four weeks in the UAE, the Zhejiang University Social Practice Team not only shared Chinese culture and experience but also felt the warmth and hospitality of the UAE faculty and students. This social practice activity not only deepened academic exchanges between China and the UAE but also wrote a new chapter of friendship between the two countries. In the future, China and the UAE will undoubtedly continue to work together to create even more brilliant achievements in cooperation.
